Shooting portraits 1/30SS at low light
I really love taking candid portraits of people at parties at night. My go-to lenses are the Viltrox 56mm and 75mm f/1.2, usually shot wide open.
For years, I was shooting at 1/100 or 1/200, always worrying about motion blur and shaky hands. I started with the X-T30 II, where camera shake was a real concern. But even after moving to the X-T50 with IBIS, I kept the habit of using relatively fast shutter speeds.
Recently, I decided to give slower shutter speeds a try. I realized that I only needed to capture people during moments when they were not moving too much to get decent results, and it elevated the photos so much.
I wanted to share a few shots from a party where there was barely any light in most of the space—just two meager light bulbs placed far apart. I think the limited lighting made the images feel quite dramatic.
Obviously, these photos are very grainy and not especially sharp, but I think that works for the atmosphere.
P.S. One photo is post-processed (with two women, just because one of them had deathly blue tint), but others are SOOC
