Valeriia & David, SOOC, XT5
Yep, a few months working mainly with film simulations and the X-T5 for weddings and couple shootings and I'm enjoying a lot, each day I learn more things. I was all the week playing with Fujifilm Raw Studio trying to replicate Portra 400 to improve my current recipe (from XWeekly or something like that).
On Wednesday I had this amazing shooting, the perfect scenario to try everything. For me, Classic Chrome is not the way for Portra, the way is Classic Negative with some tweaks. What do you think of these photos, they look like Portra 400, how do you see the transition from highlights to shadows or skin tones?Obviously the light and the couple outfits within the amazing landscape of Asturias plays a lot, a cloudy or dark day would have been very different.
I always say that for this workflow, at first you need to match your LCD/EVF colors to your reference screen, but with the need of more brightness under the sun, screen is not very trustworthy for color, you'll always need to check your work under a tree or whatever. Apart from that I found that histogram lose precision using complex recipes with a lot of tweaks comparing to use just pure RAW with standard film sim (without tweaks). I found myself shooting at -0.75/-1 for proper exposure on skins.
⚠️ About Instagram compression: It doesn't matter the adjustment or fix, dimensions size or whatever, a lot of attempts and tests recently have convinced me that Instagram simple compress more on small accounts, and usually I have better results just uploading the original files. Grain, texture and more information on shadows like on this series or in analog photography creates a mess for Instagram compression.
