GFX 100SII with 500mm Lens Nature Photos
I've had a couple days with this new setup. Initial thoughts:
- This setup is actually a bit more nimble than the XH2S/150-600mm kit I've been using, mainly because the lens is slightly smaller/lighter, and it balances well with the camera body.
- This thing is a MACHINE. The clunk of the shutter takes me back to my film days. It's light, but it's solid.
- While the autofocus is slower than the XH2S, especially at moving targets, it performs quite well.
- It is a pseudo macro lens. With the ability to crop, you can get some great macro photos from a distance. and it's arguably easier to shoot larger, moving insects than with a true macro lens.
- The files are massive, and post processing really does give your machine a workout. My computer worked hard to load these files and process them in Lightroom (Dell XPS 8690 w/ Intel Core i9-14900K 3.20 GHz, 32GB RAM, Intel UHD Graphics 770 128 MB, 2TB SSD, 12TB HDD). Post processing for these RAW files was bare minimum -- 1)Denoise, 2)Auto Edit Button 3) Crop.
- Image quality truly is amazing.
- I include cropped and original size photos so you can see how much detail this setup captures.
- I can't wait to do some massive prints.
