I was lucky enough to capture this stylish man
I noticed this very stylish gentleman posing almost as if he was inviting me to take a photo of him. Normally I’m pretty shy and never really talk to my subjects when doing street photography, but I couldn’t resist this time.
I went over and showed him the photo, told him how cool he looked and how much I liked his style. He was really happy with it and appreciated the compliments. We got talking and he told me he actually designed the whole suit himself for his tailor.
Turns out he was Greek. I thought he was Italian at first, which he was jokingly offended by, and that somehow turned into a conversation about his very proud Greek heritage.
I had a ferry to catch so unfortunately had to move on, but it was just a really pleasant interaction where I think we both walked away happy.
He appreciated my photo and that I noticed his style, and got a chance to talk about his suit and his Greek heritage.
I walked away with a bit more confidence and a reminder that sometimes street photography can extend beyond the lens and turn into a nice conversation with a complete stranger.
I’m always low-key afraid that people will hate being photographed, so moments like this are really nice.
It made me realise that approaching someone doesn’t always have to be this awkward or confrontational thing I build it up to be in my head.
Sometimes they’re just happy that someone noticed them 😊
