The rarest photo I took, by far, on the GFX system
There's something about the aurora, you never get tired of seeing it. I got used to having a "date" with it in Iceland, it always surprised me. But I never expected to see it twice over London. Especially in front of Big Ben. Photos were taken on two occasion on:
One on May 10-11 where it lasted for 1-2 hours.
One on Oct 10 2024, where we had two burst for 20mns.
Both nights came from the two strongest geomagnetic storms of the current solar cycle: the G5 "extreme" storm on May 10–11 2024, and the G4 "severe" storm on October 10–11 2024. The May storm was the strongest in over 20 years, and the one that put aurora on the front page of basically every newspaper. My photos was not, being buried around thousand of other IG posts.
To capture this, I used years of chasing auroras, looking at kp index, NOAA alerts, Glendale app was also particularly useful to know when is the next burst.
Locations across both nights: Blackfriars, Bankside, Westminster, and one shot through the arch at Westminster Bridge.
ll say it was AI, it was not (I am pretty sure AI would render more well defined auroras). I'll share in comment in fact arecording of the same event from my phone
Happy to answer any questions,
