Summer Zine ‘26
Hi everyone! I made a zine as a personal project for myself to get back into photography. I’m using my Fuji X-Pro2 with a combo of the 23mm and 27mm primes, using “Reggie’s Superia” film simulation with minor tweaks. (Physical zine photos at the end).
Context: I put photography aside for 2 years as I went back to finish school (I graduated in January). I found it hard to get outside and shoot this year because I noticed myself criticizing myself for not getting that “banger” photo for social media since being away from the hobby. So I made this project forgiving for myself: little-to-no editing, choose photos that I personally like regardless of curating, and accept the project’s end result, in hopes of getting away from the social media anxiety and just enjoy the hobby and the process.
Project: I created a theme (Summer) and chose photos that reminded me of that feeling of Summer from the months of June to September. Locations include West Virginia, New York, and Virginia. The folds aren’t perfect, and the zine could have been trimmed to look cleaner, but none of that was as important to me as to just going outside, shooting, and having fun again! Shoutout to Rick Vega, the creator of dirtylittlezine.com where I created my own template for this assignment.
Overall, I was pleased with this project. It was nice not to think about what works and doesn’t work for social media. If I’m being honest, there are like 4 or 5 photos I wouldn’t post here or on IG if I were in that mentality lol. I’d like to do this again and make up another rule or something to make the assignment a little more challenging for me. Anyway thanks for reading my spiel :)
