Dunnock | Fujifilm X-T3
I took a photo of this Dunnock down the Trans Pennine Trail in Hornsea - East Yorkshire, tucked away in the quiet, just watching and waiting. It wouldn’t stay still for more than a heartbeat. It hopped, flicked, turned its head and shifted position constantly, which meant timing had to be spot on. A fraction too early or too late and the moment was gone.
As the light started to disappear, I had to constantly tweak my settings to keep up. The shutter needed to be fast enough to catch the movement, but still allow enough light onto the sensor to avoid losing detail. It became more about instinct than calculation, reacting in the moment rather than second guessing every adjustment. The second the bird paused, even for a split second, I flicked into burst mode and let the camera rattle off frames, trusting that at least one would come out tack sharp 📸
Just to note, the watermark is only present on images shared online to protect my work. Final exports and prints that I sell are always delivered clean, without any watermark.
