Hey all,
Just saw that someone posted one of my images earlier and was asking for the recipe and saying that I don’t share what I use. Here’s why.
1) Most of the time I post images from my archive. I have no idea what I use.
2) I have 8 recipes loaded into my camera and often cycle through them as I move from outfit to outfit and scene to scene so I barely ever remember.
3) The recipe is often largely irrelevant because the lighting and scene changes what it looks like.
I get that people want to replicate (and that’s a compliment) but I’d highly highly highly recommend, as someone who does this for a living, that you switch and change using your eyes on the day of the shoot as opposed to trying to find a recipe magic bullet.
That being said my current favourite is Cuban neg. I use that a lot, also I edit raw most of the time nowadays as opposed to JPEGs, if I do use JPEG I’ll often increase the blacks to give it more punch.
