Tax the Rich Rally, The Bronx, NYC | 3.29.26 | X-T5
Had the opportunity to shoot a rally in support of raising taxes on the wealthy in this year’s New York State annual budget, headlined by US Senator Bernie Sanders. Will leave the political considerations there!
I shot on the X-T5 with a mix of the Sigma 17-40 f1.8 and the Fuji 90mm f2, 55-200mm f3.5-4.8, and 33mm f1.4. The organizers disallowed flash, so all of the shots in this post were ambient / stage lighting except one I snuck from the top of the auditorium before the start of the event (on a Godox IT32).
The 90mm was new to me and I was really stunned by the sharpness. I’ve been shooting mostly on the 17-40 lately, but I’ve always considered myself a prime lens guy, and I think these shots validated that take. I don’t know; big fan of the Sigma in theory but when I compared images from the two, I just have found the Sigma to have less detail, contrast, and pop. Now, you might think that sounds like a classic zoom lens trade off, but I was actually really pleasantly surprised how well the 55-200 did indoors! The 90mm is replacing an old Viltrox 85mm f1.8 that I really loved, and between this and the 55-200 I think I’m rediscovering the magic of Fuji’s first-party glass. Especially for event/movement photography spaces where I’m consistently one of the only people not shooting full frame, I think there’s something to be said for maximizing sharpness where I can. Who knows, though; could just be user error.
Anyways, let me know what you all think!
