A complete wedding w. film simulations on X-T5
First of all, I'm an experienced wedding photographer and videographer, mainly working with Soni till a few months ago (I have an X100V since its release date) I bought an X-H2S and an X-T5.
I belived that I understood everything about film simulations, but the interpretation of color varies between cameras and also you have to take in account a lot of things to have consistency between cameras. In this case, I tried for the first time a wedding working only with film simulations (+RAWs just in case of a catastrophe). This pics are straight from camera.
I'm tired of spending many hours on the computer working on color, and after calibrating the color of my cameras (monitors and viewfinder) I think that with patience I can approach a "more analog" workflow with the final color already in camera. In addition, in this slower workflow, and with more love, I have managed to reduce the gross by almost three quarters. I only felt comfortable using one of the 7 recipes I had in the camera, others seemed very orange or very reddish to me. I have to do more experiments and more than looking for the holy grail on the internet create my own recipes as I already did for some work with other types of clients.
This workflow could be look crazy (even the cameras are not totally designed with this in mind) but I worked for Vanity Fair and GQ (on print) in the past and also big arena concerts covering with film simulations (with my tiny X100V), so, why not to try on weddings?
And yes, apart from that, I totally exhaust by the greenish and weird skin Sony colors.
What do you think? Any of you have experience or any recommendations working at this level with film simulations? 😮
